I’m an IT professional with a background in the UK not-for-profit sector, mostly in Greater Manchester and West Yorkshire. I now live in Porthmadog in North Wales, and work online.
is on getting the best use of the tools you’ve already got, and getting them to work together as efficiently as possible. It’s about navigating all the products, services and gadgets out there, and finding the most effective. It’s about being able to keep your core data safe, independent, and under your control.
Over 10 years full-time freelancing providing IT and web services mostly for third sector organisations and startups. Regular clients included Slade & Cooper Charity Accountants, Citizens Advice Stockport, WIEGO, Savannah Wisdom, Saheli Asian Women’s Project.
Before that I worked for:
- FunderFinder, developing internal databases
- North West Arts Board / Arts Council England, as an IT Officer
- Malawi Ministry of Health, improving health management systems
- Oxfam, looking after a supporter development system.
Way way back, I also worked for Soft Solution Ltd on various projects under the Manchester Host and Poptel umbrella, as a programmer for Co-operative Retail Services, and as a worker/director with Grass Roots Books Co-operative.
I have an MSc in Computer Science and Microsoft MCSE certification. I also have BA (Hons) in Sociology, a Post-graduate Diploma in Librarianship, and a ballroom dancing certificate. I’ve also completed a graphic design course with Open College of the Arts, and I’m a kitchen table printmaker. I walk a lot. No experience is ever wasted.
